A Paradox
A paradox by carnal minds not contrived
Sits nestled in a child’s hand:
A corpse from putrid death revived
To forever righteous stand
A simple faith and love, and awe
Of most profound and deep, deep truth,
Yet even child can learn and draw
Still captive to his stumb’ling youth
The cross, the Christ on Cal’vry’s mount
The Son, the sin, the punishment
A love, a death, a cleansing fount
Behold! Believe! The veil’s rent
With access through consuming fire
Treading on the Way in Truth and Life
A fickle soul now has desire
To please the Lord in earthly strife
His awful love will the more abound
In dreadful tests or cheerful rays
There, our Lord, our Life is always found
He turns each pain to humble praise

Thank you Noah! Blessings to you and your family in Honduras.
Thank you, Tim! Keep it up! It truly is a wonder that that the Gospel is so powerful, yet at the same time so simple and accessible.
I really especially appreciate the following lines, I think they effectively convey the magnitude of that power:
“…Behold! Believe! The veil’s rent
With access through consuming fire
Treading on the Way in Truth and Life
A fickle soul now has desire
To please the Lord in earthly strife”
I think the adjectives you use are also very powerful, I especially like “putrid death”, “fickle soul”, and “awful love”.
Praying for you!

I’m glad you enjoyed it, Andrew!
“Awful love” may be misunderstood by many people today, but thanks for noting it. Awful derives from the word awe which makes it such a powerful word, especially considering the context of “consuming fire.” Thank you for your prayers, brother.
